Just When You Thought Ugly was Ugly
Last fall we planted a crepe myrtle and crossed our fingers that it would survive through the winter. Unbeknownst to us at the time we were facing one of the coldest winters we’ve ever had, along with three major snowstorms. Well, the crepe myrtle made it and is now in bloom. In a few years it should provide plenty of shade for our backyard that gets a lot of afternoon sun.
A huge storm quickly thundered through this afternoon darkening the skies and pouring down buckets of rain. The temperature cooled about 20 degrees. Poor Cha Cha is so scared of thunder–probably why she flunked out of hunting school. The sky is clear now. I hope she was ok!
The ladies and I went to the dog park well before dawn. The temperature was already 82 degrees. Fortunately there was a light breeze blowing so the visit wasn’t too uncomfortable. We’re home now and they seem content.
The Plaintiff Wail
This morning I slept in and awoke to the sound of Sophie crying and crying. I walked downstairs and found her standing by the front door apparently crying because the rest of her pack left her to go to the dog park. She is a funny little thing and is quite attached to the pack despite the rough treatment she gets from Emma and Cha Cha. I have to say though she may seem meek but she can turn into the most furious wildcat when pushed too far. The other day Emma would not leave her alone and earned a spent cat claw for it, planted squarely in the middle of tender chocolate-color nose. Of course Emma didn’t even flinch when I pulled the claw from her nose. She probably thought it was fun!
Busy Saturday
A busy Saturday comes to close with a stop by Atlantis Restaurant for carry out. If you’ve never eaten at Atlantis you should try it. The food is really good and you get large portions of Greek specialties or you can pick from a big variety of Italian or American favorites. The gyro platter is monster as is the chicken breast parmesan. They make great chicken salad and hamburgers too. The restaurant is in the Bradlee Shopping Center on King Street in Alexandria.
At National Airport with our niece, who is going home to Chicago. She spent two weeks here and toured around town. She even got the chance to take a boat trip to and tour of Mount Vernon.
The ladies went to the vet today. Cha Cha received a clean bill of health though she could stand to lose one or two pounds. Emma has a little skin infection and some tummy problems but otherwise looked great. She weighed in at a perfect 44.2 lbs. Both were a nervous wreck but survived the ordeal nonetheless.
